COLE LEWIS

B.A. with Honours, Dramatic Literature, 2004, Brock University
M.A. Popular Culture, 2008, Brock University
M.F.A. Directing School Candidate, 2011-2014, Yale School of Drama, Yale University

As part of her graduate studies, Cole gets to direct a production with her choice of content.  Cole will be directing a production of Durrenmatt’s The Visit with a firm belief in women’s equality. The Visit is about one women’s search for vengeance after she was greatly wronged in her youth.  It questions what is justice in a masculine world.  She will use theatrical forms to challenge stereotypes and social assumptions about gender, race and sexuality.  The actions of the lead female character, Claire Zachanassian, will demonstrate that theatre can challenge historical and cultural representations. Cole believes that performance is a tool of empowerment that can move gender, body-politics, race and sexuality to the center-stage.
